Hey guys. I've recently gained a newfound appreciation for live plants and I am looking to start a nice planted tank. I don't want a lot of plants, just a couple to add around my driftwood centerpiece. So far, I've added a couple undemanding species (java fern, anubias, amazon sword) and they seem to be doing well. I don't mind sticking with easy plants, but I would love to add a type of carpet plant to enhance the foreground. I really like Riccia Fluitans but I'm afraid it might not do well considering I don't inject CO2. I don't think my lighting is particulary strong either. I know its a floating plant, but I would most likely buy it attatched to a piece of driftwood. Do you think Riccia Fluitans would work in my aquarium or is there an easier type of carpet plant that I should look into? Thanks.

Go with Dward Hairgrass or Brazilian MicroSwords...their pretty cool...im doing them too in my tank for the carpet bottom tank...but im going with Dwarf Hairgrass....their thinner and look more grassy...IMO...=] go with any of them...their pretty easy to grow...just take 3-4 strands of runners or whatever their called and plant them in other parts of the tank to grow faster over the whole tank

What kind of lighting do you have? In general, 'carpetting' plants need moderate to high lighting.

mmm! You can try spliting a Japanese Moss ball and spreading it out flat somewhere and eventually over time it will spread on the substrate like carpet! It does not need alot of maintenace and will do fine in low light! =^_____^=

mmm yummy Japanese moss balls *drools* =^___^=

Microswords. Although be careful when you get them, because I was solid some "microswords" that are actually vallises.

yea just make sure you get the right species you want...you may get a plant labeled as is and it was a completely different species

cool =] i hope they do their job for you...im going to get mines soon when my tank is done with building and filling up

i have riccia growing under shop lights no co2. more info on your tank will help. i can say try this or that but if you dont have a tank to support it there is no point. also what size of tank.

he won't need anything too big for it..if it keeps on growing too much for him he could just trim them and net the left overs thats floating around...;)
