how aggressive are carpinte?? can they hold there own with jags and other fish of this level of aggression??

As long as they grow up together from a like size they should be fine. As always, tank size will play a key roll. Bigger tanks will support more aggressive species without incident. That said....they are still a CA cichlid...unpredictable at best.

there is a huge one at one of my lfs and when you put your hand against thye glass he tries to attack it

he will be going into a 150 with a 10" oscar 10" RD/midas and 8" jag.

you may get lucky but to me this sounds like a recipe for disaster and I doubt it will work. just keep a very close eye and have a back up plan in case things start to go awry. :)

my texas will sometimes flare up at my dempsey whos is at least 4x his size but will retreat when the demsey turns around. Also a while back i ha da fire at my house and had to take my fish to a friends house for a few days. well he had a texas of equal size to my dempsey about 6-7" at the time and he started chasing my dempsey around the tank. the next day the texas was almost dead and beat up like hell. my demsoey had some cuts and wounds on him but was now the owner of my friends tank. the dempsey didnt bother any other fish it just faught back agaisnt the texas. so in my experiences the tex is very agressive but its bark is greater than its bite.

well we got him, he's doing alright at the mo. the DEVIL is angry as hell butcant get to him because he's in a space where the DEVIL cant get to. the carpinte is still flairing at himand sort of teasing him but i dread the time he has to come out to eat.

Highly aggressive fish! Mine jump about 5" out of the water when my hand is above the tank. (no lid on the tank) Of course, that's when they're protecting a few hundred fry.
I'd keep him behind a divider for a few days to let him get used to the tank. Gives him a better chance against the devil...like Mo said, introducing adults never turns out well.

Kind of like putting a bully with a nerd in the middle of nowhere, someones going to get hurt. :grinno:
