Interesting how different fish can be. My Carpinti, which is nearing about eight inches, has finally decided he doesn't like the other fish in my 125. For the longest time he was rather laid back. The only time I saw him become aggressive was when he'd defend himself from my Texas cichlid (cyanoguttatus). The Texas cichlid has always been a little aggressive, but not overly so. Now the Carpinti is beating on he and the Salvini and two females I have in the tank. It's a shame but I don't think I'm going to be able to keep him in that tank anymore.

Just sharing as it goes to show you can never predict fish behavior as they grow. I see thread after thread here with people asking will this fish work in this tank with these fish. You just never know. These fish all got along fine together in this tank for about two years. Having said that I knew the Texas cichlids could become more aggressive as they grew bigger.

so far my carpintis has been remarkably well behaved . . . he is in a 90G and has paired-up with a convict, and they have roughly half the tank, the other occupants are a pair of port acara

since the male carpintis and the male port are the same size, there is gill-flaring and confrontation, but no fighting, no violence . . . it's been this way for about a year
