So I have a male and female carpintis who are currently split in a 29 for a while to get them accustomed to eachother. They are both about 5". I love the carpintis they are very interractive fish. On another note I have 6 meeki that are currently still in the 125 gallon. The meeki are very interesting seeing them interact with each other and I absolutely love them. At this moment both species get along fine or atleast did when they were together. I want to breed the carpintis because I believe they will be easier to give away/sell. I have read that carpintis only get about 10"(but everything is variable so they probably get bigger after a long time) which is why I chose them for this tank. Do you guys honestly think a pair of carpintis will be able to coexist with my little meeki. I would hate to get rid of my firemouth cichlids but I would feel awfull if I caused their demise. Do you believe that convicts would be better tankmates?

they would breed i think

I really don't care if they breed. i just want to know if the meeki will be able to handle the heat.

they should be fine better have a back plan in case

I do have a spare tank. Thanks.

you could try it ... I had carpintis that bred in a 90G tank, and they only protected about 30-40% of the tank, the rest was available to the other fish

doubt they'd see firemouths as much of a threat ...

They completely ignore the firemouth's now. By the way they are all back in the 125 now. Even when I had my little 2" firemouths with my 9" red devil for a couple of weeks they did very well. The devil would chase the meeki but the firemouth's still exhibited natural behavior and come out in the open as they usually would.
