Around what size will will Carpintis start breeding?

3" is the smallest I personally have had them spawn for me.

There is no definitive size that they will be ready at below 6 inches.

Is it true female gets a black spot on the dorsal kinda like how Trimacs do?

Females will get a black blotch in the dorsal fin. It's great to get a pair at a small size (they can and will breed at 3")...however fish that breed at a small size generally don't achieve their full potential growth. Energy that would go toward growth is expended in breeding.

I have a batch just under 3" and I am not trying to breed them at that size. I just wanna pick out the best male.
