carpintis cichlid sexing

i picked up 2 carpintis cichlids . when I went to get them all of the other carpintis with them had black on the dorsal fin so I picked the largest and smallest is it possible for a male to have black on its dorsal fin
 
Yea I have seen some males with black in the dorsal

in a certain mood both genders can have black on dorsal.

You gotta know the difference between the males smaller black and the female's bigger black.

I'm certainly no expert, but I have to agree. I've seen one of mine (hoping male) have just a hint of black, barely noticeable but when in certain moods or being challenged go black. There are a few pictures that might help you out on the thread titled "Green Texas".
 
T-roy i could really use your help sexing my 2 JDs that i have.

you look at the blue on their gill plates/cheeks. Females get the smeared electric blue spangles and males have less blue annd sharper blue spanlges. It is one of the ways to tell in green terror also
