I would like a bit of help confirming which this is please. It was labelled in the shop as a Texas Cichlid Herichthys carpintis and I was told by the guy in the shop it was a 'True Texas'.

I thought the Texas was Herichthys cyanoguttatus (what I would call a true Texas) and a Pearlscale or Green Texas was a
Herichthys carpintis.

IMO it looks like a young Carpintis which is harder to find than a standard Cyanoguttus

Cheers guys, I thought it was a carpintis which is why I picked it up. Thought they were harder to come by as well so you've confirmed everything I thought. Looking forward to watching it grow now.

Its interesting what is more difficult to find depending on what region of the country you come from. In my area, cyanoguttatus are rarely seen but carpintis are relatively common.

I was going to say the same thing. I can count on one hand how many Cyano I've seen over the last 5 years...Carpintis are everywhere here.

You are correct about what the common names. I have never understood why people call h. Caprintis a green Texas. They are not found in Texas and there is actually a green h. Cyano morph (the other is purple). The fish in the bag is a h. Caprintis. There are a few different morphs of h. Caprintis too. H. Cyanos get bigger and they have more tiny spots. Way more than the fish in the pic.
