Hey guys i recently picked up a carpintis from a lfs and it was not labeled and i was trying to find out what type it was. I am thinking it is a female escondido or vontehillo, you be the judge!

first pic is without flash and second is with light off flash on.(both crappy sorry)

if you got it from lfs than its more than likely an escondido not very many lfs carry vonts...

how do you find an Escondido in the store? Not all Carpintes are Escondidos.. They put Escondido on the label because they think a carpinte is called Escondido.. lfs are stupid.

This dont look like any of the options.. It looks like from the lfs.

Standard aquarium strain of H. Carpinte :)

thanks guys, i got it for free as a trade in i wasn't expecting anything specacular anyway :D the guy at the store said it was brought in because he converted to saltwater.

they also had texases labeled as carpintis 2 tanks down, i told them they werent carpitnis but herichthys cyanoguttatum and still bought one for a discounted price (5$) and went in 2 days later and they still had the same label. silly fish stores

oh, and i was also led to believe it was a vont or esc because it has a lil bit of worming around its mouth area. and since they are labeled as to where they were found, i guess i have a detroit carpintis hahaha

i dont think anybody sells vonts in the US except the guy from the market forum. i bought it from him and forgot his name.

Well it's a very pretty fish. Good find.

But it actually is spectacular. lfs tend to call many carpintis Escondidos when they are not. They seem to always be lahillas or charial which have less pearls (usually, some can be very stunning). I bought my Escondido from Rapps over 3 years ago. this is him now. About 8-9". I think still best looking location variant.
