Ok, so I am getting some Festae, some Cubano, a Lil Mota, and I was wondering if you thought this might be an idea.

My Tank is a 6' 220. I have a chance to get 3x-Carpintis 1xMale 2xFemale, the issue is my guys coming are 2-4" range, and the Carpintis is 5" for the Male and 4" each for the Female. I love the Tex and they did not make it in my last Gen Pop as they were smaller, the thinking Im having now is, if they are larger then the Parachromis, Amps and Nans, they may make it this time, or are they too big?

Thoughts?

I have grown out Carpintis with big aggro CA's with no issues. I think the male will pair with a female and cause hell...I would just get three males if a community is what you want. I have seen tiny Motas and Festae murk much much larger fish....

You should be ok at those sizes. Just remember what spizz said.
If you have two pair up, your in trouble. keep it same sex.

Gen Pop is my version of a Prison Yard - Full of big baddies.....You think I should grab both females then?

Thanks, I had a all Male Tank that worked well, but it was mostly Amps. The Herichthys that I had in it did not make it, but the Cons did.....I had Carpintis and Minkleyi. I was not going to risk my Labridens in it. I'm thinking that at a larger size I might have a better chance at success.

Just pick the better looking sex of the species, if you're going to have problems, you're going to have problems. Females can often be just as aggressive as males.

I'd do female festae, female mota, and male cuban. With this mixture though you're bound to end up with hybrids.

You like the female mota more? I dig the intense red she gets but the spotting pattern on the male is just tops imo. Then again getting all female the fish wont be as big so you'd have more room.....

But for carpintis def get a male. I just ordered a new escondido male to go with a female caprintis I picked up last week. Can't wait till they're full grown. Goodluck!

The Guy sold/traded the fish for some Discus, dayum, my loss, at least the GCCA is this weekend. Ill be looking for something......
