I just got a Carpintis, looks like an Escondido, but it has about 4 black dots on its body, could that be hybrid? Most Escondido videos i've seen don't have more than two black dots on its body.
Is it true that if it doesn't have a black spot on its dorsal fin, its a male?

Edit: Heres a picture.

Looks 100% Escondido to me. The dots just generally get covered up by the spangling or fade with age. Ive had lahillas and escondido and looking at their pics, they had the 4 dots as well when they were smaller.

The dorsal blotch thing isnt 100% accurate, but generally, yes. Females develop a darker blotch than males.

I have lahillas too, remember? Now i know the difference between lahillas and chariel. Lahillas have darker blue chain, goldish body and smaller pearls with more space in between, while chariels has rounded pearl and dark body.

i live in NY and they are in paradise aquarium 2 left, bigger than this one and has a hump.
does it look male?

I just looked at my Escondido, and he's got 4 spots as well. They do come and go though; they really show when he flares at another tankmate.

Do the male Carpintes get a hump on their head?

Some do eventually. Although I have seen females get them also.
