Its been a week, my juvenile carpintis is still pretty uninterested in food. Should I be worried? He has so far eaten a few tiny sinking discus pellets (free sample) 1 cichlid pellet and some flake fragments. He seems to do best with the flakes, which is what I have been feeding him. I'll drop some flakes in, the other fish will go to the surface and eat. Flakes drift down, he will dart towards one as if he is going to eat it... and stops. Finally he apparently realizes it is food and will swim around and eat the tiny fragments that are left. Sometimes I will see him at the surface, looking up as if he is waiting for food. But when it is offered, he doesn't seem to care. The pike I bought at the same time will gorge himself If I keep offering food.

Should I be worried? He's looking a bit thin.

As long as he's eating he'll be fine. Just takes time for them to realize what's food sometimes. What are his tank mates? He might also be feeling too intimidated to top feed if his mates are larger than him.

Similar sized silver dollars and a slightly smaller pike...he's about 2.5 inches.

i would say the same thing..as long as he is eating..things should eventually improve.. he just feels a little intimidated or still stressing a bit... eating anythig is a good sign...

He should be alright. Mine took about a week and half to 2 weeks to eat really good. I don't even think he nibbled the first week. Now he's always the first to eat. Its just a new environment stress thing because mine was the biggest in the tank, I really don't think it was intimidated.
