I can't decide which one to get! which one do you guys think would look better as a showcase specimen? Also which one is usually more aggressive?

carpintis "Escondido" is probably the best looking cichlid i have ever owned. I would go with that. That's just my opinion though

How can I tell if it is Escondido? Do all of them get the cool pearling? And could they hold their own against a Jack Dempsey?

Can definitely hold its own against a Dempsey. Actually all the carping is I've had are more aggressive. It would be best to get from a breeder or importer. You can try tangled up in cichlids.I'm sure there are plenty of other breeders/importers other member can recommend. Good luck. Post pics when and if you decide on them.

I'm actually getting some Next weekend from my LFS the owner said his breeder had some about 2-3inches long and would sell them to me for $10. What should I look for when picking one out? I also prefer male but have no idea how to sex them

My Carpintis is a wuss. Oscar tended to push him around a lot...but beautiful fish!

Fry around here go for $3.99

neither. Trimacs and Midas are the best.

Here's a Carpinti Escondido baby though

Good price. Look for patterns, spots, to you liking and dominance. Get a group and see what happens. You won't have a problem selling what you don't want.

I read something about females have a black spot on dorsal fins like Salvini's. Is this a reliable way to sex them?
