Has this been done? I have a female carpintis and a male dempsey.

i think if you try that ,would give good results and lots of pearls so try it

I had a smaller male Dempsey with a larger female Texas... the male wanted to breed with her but she wouldnt have it because of the size difference. Seems like it would be easy to pair them up but no garuntee that your two will like eachother... if you were determined to make this pairing then it could probably be done easily if you kept several fish of each kind together matched for sex.

This cross makes some of the best looking hybrids in my opinion. The one I had years ago was the most aggressive fish I have ever owned.

I'm partial to the Carpintis X jag myself, Carpintis X JDa close second for texas hybrids. I believe the trade name for a JD X tex is galaxy cichlids

I've come across other mentions of Galaxy used to describe this hybrid on the web. I'd realistically like to cross it with a blue gene JD somehow, but I think the extra generation of work is putting me off. I'm already working on a guppy strain.

I'm also not finding any info about previous creation of this hybrid and what sort of gene expression variations can occur in the spawn. Any resources?

I have a pair of bgjd and a few red texas females and I might do this too. I'm sure the pearls will be nice, but I'd be worried about the body structure of the the fish once they reach adulthood.

The one I had and most ive seen in pictures seem to express a body shape that's a mix from both parent species. Big pearls of the texas covering the entire body but pearls are blue green and gold. The only one Ive seen that could be called ugly was all washed out from stress. Wish I had pictures of mine.
