Has anyone done this? I've been trying to find examples because someone locally says they have successfully crossed the two. I would like to know what they might look like.

Because they both come from a common Herichthyine ancestor, it can easily be done.
And I'm sure many of the unidentifiable, generic aquarium "Texas"/carpintus strains are crosses, either due to ignorance in the past (people not realizing they were actually separate species) or lately with the current cichlid hybridization fad.

Duane couldn't have said it better....

herichthys carpintis = green texas, many different variations depending on collection point : herichthys cyanoguttatus = texas cichlid so i am guess you are asking about a carpinits/cyano cross and yes they cross easily enough.
