Catalina Aquarium 1300 gph pump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have not used the pump your looking at, but have run a number of other CA pumps.
Noise was never an issue, even when used inline.
They did produce vibration, that if not isolated by sitting on a sponge and having a flex line attached to the pump, could be annoying.
These "bottom feeder" pumps are a pretty decent alternative to the high priced spread.
Most models can be run submerged or inline.
The only bad part is the drop off rate when head is added.
After my first experience, I always went the next size up from the GPH I wanted at the tank.

currently my pump is a rio+ 2500, im looking at either the CA-4000, or the Rio 3100.

Problem is that im looking to buy a better pump at 2-3 feet head height, my rio return pump cant keep up with my wet/dry.

I would be disapointed if i bought the CA-4000, and turns out at 2-3ft the CA-4000 would do less gph than my rio 2500 does atm

thanks for the info though, keep it comming

so basicly, at 2-3ft head height, which pump would do better, CA or RIO
