Oak leaves release tannins just like almond leaves. The tannic acids lower the pH but if your hardness levels are high, then not much will happen with your pH. The tannins though certainly benefit some fish by minimizing bacterial infections, etc. I just weigh down the leaves to the bottom to create a leaf litter appearance or put them in filters. If they don't fit, cut them in pieces and stuff in a nylon bag and put the bag in the filter.
