Catch a fish without breaking down tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wait til late at night, long after all lights have been off and the fish are asleep then net the fish out.

with my reef tank I just put a net in the corner and used a straightened wire hanger and poked in the rocks gently till they seeked the net for security. Worked for me could work for you. Good Luck

Thanks mate, unfortunately they sleep in the rocks (presumably for security)
Try blocking the hiding holes with something while the fish are out and about and then when the lights are off whichever fish you are after should be out in the open.

Add a large diamater pvc pipe and when the target fish goes in block one end with your hand and the other with the net.

Here's a simple to make fish trap that works pretty good, well at least for me. LOL. Most of this stuff is misc things that you probably already have.

- Kritter keeper container (Depending on size $5-10) You probably have one from the goldfish you won at the fair
- Tunze magnet or anytype of aquarium magnet or suction cups for mounting. Recommend a magnet so it will be easier to adjust the position of the trap if need be.
- Fishing line
- Fishing egg sinker

Basically drilled some holes so I could zip tie the tunze magnet mount. Another on top of the trap so I could fit the tip of a food baster for squirting food. Last hole drilled on the door flap so I could tie fishing line. I use an egg sinker to add a bit of weight to the door, so the trap stays open. If not, the door flutters in the current.
