Has anyone come up with any clever ways of catching their fish from a fully aquascaped tank, without removing all the decor?
I have 3 young melanura that have decided they like the taste of each others scales.
I have witnessed this among young melanura before.I have also heard other veija keepers report of their fish nipping off each others scales. This is not down to aggressive behaviour but an unfortunate feeding habit.
My tank is full of plants rocks and branches. It also has 4 brace bars. The tank is 2 foot deep and 7 feet long.Catching these fish with a net is impossible unless I totally strip the tank down.I don't really want to do this as getting it back the same is very hard.
Has anyone got any ingenious methods of catching/trapping a fish beyond the conventional net?
Be interested to hear any ideas or its tank stripping time.

When I had to catch smaller fish in any of my tanks I usually bring the water level pretty low and sectioned the tank off with some plexiglass.

That's a good idea ehh,but with the amount of decor in the tank it may prove hard to section off.I like the suggestion though.

there really is no other way unless you modify a minnow-trap past 1" openings and wait until your hair falls out. You think I LIKE removing 500+lbs of slate to net ONE fish?? LOLOLOLOL

Get dirty, dude.

I don't know what your scaping looks like but because the tank is so wide maybe you can corner the fish into one of the front corners of the tank?
Good luck haha.

Reef keepers do this quite frequently to remove problem fish. You don't want to be moving several hundred pounds of live rock, especially if it's got years worth of coral growth on it.

Generally, some type of trap is used.

The best method I have found is to have a buddy. Da wife is always my fish snatching partner. Some fish are still almost impossible to me. Plecos, for example, always give me a hard time.

I bait my little pink tail with food and keep the net next to it, he eventually takes the bait and i get him. I do this very waterchange so i can get him in a bucket while the temperature is increased in the tank (tap water is cold)
