Two big caterpillars normally seen 1,000 miles away in Southern Europe or North Africa have been found on a jasmine bush in a country garden. The Death’s-head Hawk caterpillars, each six inches long, have been nicknamed Hannibal and Lecter by Amanda Chittock, of Rayne, Essex, because the variety featured in the film The Silence of the Lambs.

The bright yellow and blue caterpillars are among the rarest in Europe. Only one Death’s-head Hawk moth - Acherontia atropos - has been seen in England this year. “It is a very exciting find.

They are infrequent immigrants to the UK and very impressive beasts,” said Mark Parsons, of Butterfly Conservation.

An adult moth, which makes a loud squeaking noise, can have a wingspan of up to seven inches.

When I first saw it, I thought it was photo shopped because the fish really jumped out at me. But I read the story and it didn't mention them. So I believe it's real.
