I just set up my first 29 gallon tank and I was wondering after my tank is done cycling what are some good bottom dwelling fish that I could get. Preferably ones that will not out grow my tank or take up to much room.
Hmm depends on other stocking really.
I was going to suggest 3 picture catfish, but the more i think about it, the more 30 gallons is too small. I recon cory catfish are your best bet, not exactly monster, but great looking and acting fish. They all stick together and patrol the bottom.
Some guys will diagree, but there are so many cool looking plecos out there that don't get too big! Unfortunately most of the nice catfish also get MONSTER size, which really would require very large tanks. Even in my 125 my large cats need more room!
For the beginner's tank, a good cat community might have a few auchenipterids--tatia perugiae bing the most common, perhaps a few banjos, a shoal of small corydoras and 4-5 smaller kryptopterus species (minor or macrocephalus) for the upper strata.
