Yeah my water is hard in my area I'll have to get those water softening pillows ive heard they work great

Plants are great and can be life saving in an emergency.

As kno4te said, the main issues are with the water being too hard and also an ill balanced diet (which I believe could have been my case, barring infection). BTW one of the three gulpers of mine is still alive and have been doing well.

Water softening via ion exchange may not work as it will increase the salinity, which may or may not be detrimental to your gulper. I imagine you'd have to get some RO or distilled water or soft bottled water etc to dilute your hard tap water. In any case, this is another factor stacked up against you.
