I am interested in getting one or several s/a catfish for this tank
my questions are:

What kinds would you suggest?

Would i need to relocate one of the current inhabitants to accommodate the catfish as far as stocking, and aggression are concerned ?

And how many should i get?

filtration is one fluval 305, one HOB, and an ehiem classic.

Thanks, Brandon

try south american bumble bee catfish, they dont get to big and there fun to watch. not to mention there very laid back. the only problem you may have is if theres any off spring in that tank the bumble bees will eat them

yea but i had a 4 line pictus that beat the crap out of all my other fish

yeah i def suggest pictus they are outgoing and have the look of the larger cats, and you could have 2 in that tank :) (some are aggressive towards each other and are outgoing by themselves but others need friends to feel more secure and come out, i had 2 and gave them to VRWC on here, they fought in his tank so i took one of them back, the one he has is still totally outgoing while mine hides alot so he has 2 little friends in quarantine right now :) and my tank is a 120 as well but it is the 5'x18in version)

Yea, they get mixed in together at the LFS all the time. If the OP checks to make sure he's only getting true spotted pictus, I think a squad of 6 or 8 would look awesome in that tank! They dont get too big, so I wouldn't expect stocking issues...

i agree

A group of six would be fantastic! I just don't know how the bio load would be when everyone is full grown.
Unfortunately i wont be able to upgrade the tank later on so this would be there permanent residence, does anyone think there would be problems with this setup?

Brandon

The bioload will be high just because of the big cichlids. I think you're ok with that tank as long as you have good filtration.
