Catfish FRY in my Cichlid tank.....SWEET!!

Check this out I had two Syno. Multi. Catfish in my 55 gallon cichlid tank and I had NO IDEA they were going to breed.

Now I have 3 little catfish fry swimming around. They are soooo freakin awesome.

Catfish fry are the cutest fry i've ever seen. You can put your hand down by them and they will just swim around your hand and almost like stick to your hand. Its hard to get them off. They are dark and colorful. they look just like the adults but just TINY!!!


Bitter sweet though cause shortly after they where born the mother died from a power outage. I am very sad, but very happy she left three little babies. I'll try to get some good pics and post them.

Awesome, of all the accidental breeding I've had I never got cats. Can't wait to see the babies grow up. . . just don't let them breed with daddy. . . (

lucky you ... i get cat babies all the time.. i have 3 males and five females multi's .. i do know how cool it is every once in awhile to see a baby cat swiming in the tank that you missed

I have heard that syno's will spawn right along with a cichlid mouth brooder and let the cichlid carry the eggs. The weird part of this is that the syno eggs will hatch first and have cichlid eggs for their first meals until they are spit out, then thank the cichlid parents.

yep.....I believe my host fish were Yellow Labs. Could have been Red Zebra but I'm pretty sure it was the Labs.

I took some pictures. I will try to find them. I have sold my tank and all my fish this weekend so I'll have to find the pics I already took.

most of the time people can only get fry with host fish... smart if you think about it... kinda like wards of the state.
