i bought a catfish. it was sold to me as a four line catfish. it has horizontal lines on its body, 4 of them. is this the right name for these fish. ive never heard of them before. sorry i cant post a pic. still dont have a dig camera
If it is the one I am familiar with it is the Pimlodus blochii, from northern SA, they average around 10" as adults but in the wild have been caught at up to 14", when young the lines are made of spots and as they grow get better defined until about 8" then they start to gray out a bit, I have had a couple up to about 9". They are easy to care for but eat small fish and inverts, They like to hide under driftwood, are mainly nocturnal and pretty peaceful. If you keep more than one they tend to sleep on top of each other. Feed them sinking pellets, worms, and shrimp. Here is a picture of one at it's prime, I think it came from "scotscats"
thats what i have. it definatly seems nocturnal, stays hidden all day[ except when i drop some shrimp in the tank] scouers the tank all night. cool looking fish, its whiskers are as long as its body. thanks Guppy
