Well I saw one rare catfish (at least for me) it was labeled as Pachax or Panchax catfish, can't really remeber, since I forgot to take a picture :banghead: I will try to describe it, big head like a wels catfish but it had a sorter shape and was bulky, fat, color was kind of golden with dark brown. Almost bought it but since the head looked like a wels I thought about it twice. If someone can tell me thw family I could start from there till I find it. The price 29 us dollars if it helps.

No one has any clue? I'm thinking of buying it but I'm afraid that he will become a 9 feet monster, I don't want that.

There is no panchax associated with a catfish. There is an Aplocheilus panchax but that's a killifish. Can you call the LFS and ask them to email the scientific name and/or the pic to you?

not many catfish have the potential to reach 9 feet, take a gamble, that's what life is about, so we can see what you're talking about

Lol I took you're advice and took a gamble, here are the pic, I'll try to take better pictures once he's in the tank

It's from the Pseudopimelodidae family. Looks to me like one of the genus Cephalosilurus species: http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/genus.php?genus_id=273#1525

One of mine most favorite genus.

Beware, they are not too different from the behavior and the capability of the gulper catfish A. batrachus. They can swallow tankmates approx. equal their size and girth. These cats are all mouth.

looks to me like an over fed flat head catfish. Those guys get huge. They are native to the u.s. and have monstrous appetites. If you've ever seen hillbily hand fishin', these are the huge catfish they catch.

AWESOME PICKUP!!!!

Panchax is a killifish - For $29 you got a great deal on a rare Cephalosilurus! And the best part? It won't get anywhere near as big as a Wels - lucky you!

Yellowcat has/had a couple that reached 2'+. Add that mouth and it's a swallow-dzilla.

Flatties don't have that nice, banded, clearly marbled coloration.
