Hey there,

I have a 380L bow fronted tank.I will be filling it with some lovely central/south american ciclids: an oscar, jack dempseys, possibly a convict or two. I would love to have a catfish in there - do any of you guys know what types of catfish would be suitable?

I nearly went for a red-tailed cat fish - god bless internet research!! :)

A medium size pleco would suit the American cichlid style of tank, same biotope etc.
Maybe a Goldspot L001 , 12" max, peacefull with other fish, but with enough attitude to handle living with an Oscar ;)

Cheers

Ian

Good question, I'm on the same quest but what else is out there besides pleco's? A friend of mine had a couple of bullheads in his cichlid tank but they didn't come out much and he eventually released them back to the wild. what's a "pim"

lima shovelnose

lots of people keep lima shovelnose with there less aggressive cichlids but if there pretty aggressive then go for a faster moveing pimelodidae

tiger shovelnose would be awesome

Yeah ok buddy in a 100 gallon tank I DON'T THINK SO!!! TSN's grow enormus up to just under 4 feet and sometime a little bigger. Pictus cats will do just fine. Lima shovelnose are a little to big as well because they just about top out at 20-22" when full grown. Limas are very aggressive IME. My 9" Lima hols his own against an 8" Black Nasty 13" Midas 12" RD and a MASSIVE Beani.
