I was just wondering what would be a good catfish to put in my 29g?

Well i haven't set it up yet, so i don't know the ph. Don't really know about tankmates yet, was just planning on getting the cat first then thinking about its roommates. Possibly a firemouth but not really set on it.

I have a Synodontis ocellifer in my 29 he'll be moved when he gets bout 4".

the true upside down catfish would be great get about three of them, they r real actice and fun too watch Synodontis nigriventris, and they r real tough fish, i have seen them in with all kinds of cichlids

Would some upside-down catfish and pictus catfish work? and if so, how many of each?

the pictus i dont know too much about, but the up side down guys like to be in groups, you need to watch with some of the syn catfish, acouple of the sp can be very nasty and stress out your other fish, a good night time cat that doesn't stress your other fish is the Striped Rafael, or spotted rafael

some pictus would be nice, a large school of corys, or a BN or gold nugget pleco would all be neat. there are too many options just to tell you one, really. catfish are one of the largest fish families on the planet.
