I wasnt sure if i should put this hear or in catfish but anyway has anybody here had catfish in with their Malawis more specificall mbunas?? I want to get one just to have or even to do a little bottom feeding..I do not really want a pleco but might get one anyway...just wanted to know your suggestions and past experiences..Thanks

Synodontis are your best bets. The larger ones can defend themselves well enough whereas most plecos end up with one eye or none at all. I wouldn't try doradids. Most are peaceful and will not tolerate constant harassments.

I keep bristlenose plecos with all my mbunas and to date none have lost any eyes......

I have a variety of common plecos, bristlenose and some others and have never had anything like that happen. I also keep a large variety of Synodontis in with them. I have quite a few and 1 to 3 per tank.

I have a leopard synodontis and a sailfin pleco in with mine. They all seem to get along fine...although i've worked out the pleco must be a female as one of the larger male cichlids is very keen on it for sum reason, keeps shaking all over the place trying to impress it. I take it this is not the norm???
