I've been debating about picking a few of these up to move my larger cats into, and I was hoping some MFKers who have experience with these stock tanks could chime in...maybe even recommend something totally different.

This is the stock tank I'm interested in:

I was wondering if someone knows the dimensions of the footprint. I talked to the supply shop, but they said they don't know...they would just have to order it (no refunds of course) and I could measure it.

I was wondering how these are to drill or even feedback on what anyone has used for filtration. I want to pick up about 3, maybe 4, but if anyone has had positive experience with any other setups I would love to hear it.

Thanks...KSB

i dont have any experience but from i hear they are great. the footprint is usually about 7-8'x3-4'. people usually filter them with sumps. good luck

why not just get a pool if your gonna get 1200 gallons potentially anyways :)

Well, it's for my guys that don't tolerate tankmates very well...like my H. wyckii, RTCxTSN (mainly for more room), and my annectens lungfish, so I figured do 3 separate enclosures for them.

My buddy has 2 of them. He's currently cycling one for stingrays/plecos, and using a couple of 5-gal buckets full of bioballs for filters. The other one's not started yet..... Overall, things are working well. The guy who had them before had a nurse shark in one (overloaded, I know. That's why he got rid of it.), and the other served as a filter I believe.

The base footprint is only a few inches narrower than the top. maybe 3 inches all around the edge... so 6 inches in diameter (although it's not a perfect circle as it has to 18-20 inch flat edges w/ bulkheads).

Awesome...thanks man, that's exactly what I was wondering. I figured if you lose a lot of room at the base of the tank than it may not be worth doing, but it seems like it will work perfectly for what I'm looking to do.

Yeah, its definitely an economic alternative to the 300 gal glass tank. Should work out nicely for you, and you're doing it with the right fish. Obviously it's not a good way to go unless your fish are fun to watch from the top, which catfish are.... so keep us posted!
