i currently have a 90g(but will be upgrading to 125/180 come tax returns!) with a 17" aro,12" ck, 10" gibby pleco, and a blood parrot and am thinking bout getting a catfish but i dont know what will mesh with what i have already. in 2to3 years i will be upgrading to atleast a 300g, more if needed or an indoor pond. i must upgrade my tanks in steps due to money- but rest assured i will not skimp on my plans! i was thinking a lima shovelnose, i hear they dont get to big to eat my fish or a rtc but they get huge right? how is a rtc's attitude and how big do they get in an aquarium, ive seen huge ones come out of rivers but never over 2.5' in an aquarium personally.any other suggestions, info, and pix would be appreciated.

I think Limas are a good idea as they'll grow big, but not too big, where as rtc get huge, think 4+ foot maxed out as an adult and grow at i huge rate. A lima will not be as wasteful as a rts either. If you decide on limas, i would recommend on two so that they have a buddy to 'hunt' and feed with.

hmmmm, too many people have the idea that fish get smaller in captivity than they do in the wild when in reality they can get just as big if not bigger if properly housed and cared for. Expect a rtc to grow to a minimum of 4 foot if properly housed and cared for. Limas even if kept for 20 + years should not grow more than about 2ft.
