Hey everyone!

I'm debating kinds of catfish that I could add and I'm not really sure what would work with my setup.

180g (6x2x2) with pea gravel, river rock, plants (fake), maybe some driftwood
FX5
Magnum 350 for bio

Stock:
8" indo dat
tt eel
green texas
festae (2 or 3 on hold for me at my lfs)
cuban (would like to get soon)
polleni (on hold at lfs)

I would like a catfish or two that won't get overly large but will stay busy/sociable and would be a good cleaner. I'm not sure I want to do a pleco right now though. Suggestions welcome! Please post pics if you have any when you suggest. :naughty:

If giraffe catfish didn't get too big I would say that as well as niger catfish. You could try some Frontosa or Large geos if you want sand shifted although they're not catfish. Can't think of much cleaner fish at that size except maybe Magnus algaeish scrapercus ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1400511018.648452.jpg

lol I have the A. scrapercus already.

Also, the algae isn't the problem. I just need something that is attractive but will clean up pellets particles, etc. I'm not sure I'm ready for more clown loaches right now since I just lost all 3 of mine (5", 7" 8.25"). Very upsetting for me. I could be tempted to do a pleco but so far I'm just wanted to stick to a good catfish. I won't be able to upgrade the tank or anything so the 180g will have to be good for life.

I always wanted an O. niger but I know I won't be able to house it for life. How big does the giraffe catfish get?

Maxes out at around the same as nigers; I see them mostly between 18-24" in aquaria adult size though. Anything too small id be scared that the dat would take him out; I haven't has much luck with dats and fish attacks. Maybe a good size synodontis or something along that lines. I'm not sure if many of the larger cats clean though unless someone can chime in. Filter feeders are good for sand cleaning but most glass cleaners are tiny.

I was under the impression that nigers get upwards of 4 ft in the wild and grow fast. Maybe something around a 12-18" for full length would work. I feed my dat really well so I don't foresee him misbehaving too much. Lol I would need something to start out around 5" before I could put it in my 180.

I was saying though, as in I usually see giraffe cats smaller than the nigers; as in I meant nigers are quite often seen hitting the 3 ft mark; but I see giraffe cats mostly in the 18-24" range but I'm sure there are larger ones out there than I've seen.

I think vulture and tigrinus stay around the right size but I'm not sure if they do any cleaning. Megalorus uranoscopus get big but grow extremely slow so you'd have a long time if you went that route.

You clearly are in need of a gulper it should stay under a foot long and is the coolest catfish ever it will not clean your tank tho haha

I'm thinking about leaning towards a sun cat/eclipse. Think that will work with my stock?
