Hey everyone, I was just wondering what you thought of this. This may also fall under the catfish forum but what do you think of trying a niger catfish, aka ripsaw catfish, as a tankmate for a red belly of similar size? I know the ripsaw cat's are heavily armored and generally lurk at the bottom of the tank and I have read of plecos being successful tankmates for pirahna. Also I know that both these species inhabit the same area of the world I believe so what do you guys think? Just curious about your opinions. Thanks!

80% chance it will become a meal imo. But a solitary rbp isnt as tough as a pack so you may have luck, id say with a big enough tank 120+ and enough hiding spots and you keep the rbp well fed it should be ok, but again that's never for sure. It may be better if the rbp is raised from a small size with the tank mate.

i housed a raphael cat with 2 pirahnas in a 75 gallon b4. had caves and logs 4 him to hide in

Even plecos can fall prey to a solo red belly. every tank mate you try can be hit or miss. I have 6 tiger barbs and 2 cories with mine, but started with 7 barbs, 3 cories. "Never house a fish that you would mind losing with a piranha"

Not to mention if a rbp tries to eat a pleco it can die cuz the spikes, id never risk that, crawfish and ghost shrimp I don't really mind.....

Snails crawfish clams crabs ghost shrimp are all great tank mates for p's imo, dithers are cool but I don't add anything unless I quarintine for a month, too risky with parasites, would be devastated to lose one of my 6 piranhas!

I work with two niger cats that are pushing 40" each, keep in mind that they get even bigger than that.
