hey guys first post to the forum!

so the other day at work a (we have a 125 and 55 setup) customer gave me a few fish she didnt want anymore. one of the fish was an 8 inch long catfish. not quite sure of the breed, nor the size it will grow up to. i have not seen it eat in a few days possibly due to a new inviornment? he is housed in my 75 gallon with plenty of driftwood to hide in so hope he will soon be more active. anyways heres a picture of the fish, any help would be great!!

much appreciated

That's an eclipse catfish. Maximum size is approximately 14". They are sometimes pretty shy and will hide sometimes. As with most fish they sometimes won't eat for a few days in the new tank. Also feed him at night and he should eat the food. Drop in some minnows and they will be gone by morning lol. But, welcome to our community! Hope you have a good time here at MFK!

Hey thanks for the quick reply! Im sure he will be fine im my tank for a while. Any cautions i should take with him? And as for feeding is he okay with hikari massivore stuff? Or alge wafers? Or just live food?
Once again thanks!

please don't feed him live u had a 12" suncatfish that got hole-in-the head from being fed live... And they can get as big as 18 inches.

I got 2 in my 75. You should get him a friend as he will become more active. Both mine are super active at night not so much during the day. He also eats frozen food(mosquito larvae, mysis shrimp, krill) and also sinking shrimp and cichlid pellets
