Well last night my albino channel cat took flight. I opened the lid of the tank to drop him some food and he launched himself a good 4 feet out of the tank. I put him back in and held him and made sure he had water flowing over his gills. He started to move again so I let him go. He was swimming on his side for awhile. I thought he was doing good when I seen him swimming upright. Sadly this morning I check on him and he is upside down on the bottom and dead. He will be missed.

Anyone else have a channel cat or any other catfish launch out of the tank like this?

My four line Pim fell six feet onto concrete when I was moving him and he decided to launch himself out of the pitcher he was in. He then spent a week in a tote and got stuck in the net so bad I had to cut him out (I was catching other fish and he charged in) I didn't think he was going to make it but that was over a year ago and he just turned 16 :)

Glad to hear your fish made it. Wish I was that lucky. He mussed have really knocked the crap out of himself when he landed on his back.

It can happen it appears to any fish, some of course more common than others, like arowanas, gar, etc. I'd check the water quality to be sure it was not done to escape bad water.

The smaller the tank and the bigger the fish in it, the higher the chances it will take a leap of faith. I've lost a 2' RTC who leapt and broke through the plastic shower curtain covering it's 150 gal QT tub. My two 2' alligator gars have done the same thing but lived, even after ~5 hours on the basement concrete floor.

Water parms are good. Minus nitrates are slightly elevated. He did it the day after a water change as well. Sadly I can only blame myself as I have not received my shipments with the rest of my equipment to get the 240g up and running.
