Hes brought in pure albinos like this before for $2500 a pop...$1500 is steep yes, but ida already bought it if i had the extra money lol...

Nice find and interesting. I agree with Wednesday. Only he means Cephalosilurus (genus), not apurensis which is a species.
Anyone has a well grounded opinion on John of ECZS (East Coast Zoological Supply)? He used to be an extremely active vendor on Waterw**ves but this forum tanked. I can't figure him out. Is he trustworthy? Is he problematic? I've never dealt with him directly, only saw what others had said but I'd like to know more.
I saw this fish too on Aquabid and W.W. John is inclined to lump many species of the family pseudopimelodidae into what he calls "ugly cats". This fish comes from Colombia. According to FishBase, the genus cephalosilurus (such as the species c. apurensis) does not exist in Colombia but can be found in neighboring Venezuela, so ?. The fish could be from the genus batrochoglanis, two species are found in Colombia, b. acanthrochiroides and b. transmontanus, both are small species compared to c. apurensis but are extremely rare in their own right in the aquarium trade. I have gotten rare fish from John in the past,(at least one unidentified species!) he does get some really good stuff at times. He is trustworthy and honest and I would buy from him any time. Is he problematic? Well he can be controversial in the sense that in past forum posts he has been inclined to have little patience for those he deems to be know-it-all's and idiots. Since I'm a known keeper of "ugly cats", I continue to follow what John brings in…
