Hi Everyone,
I have a catfish that has a fungal condition. He was attacked by another catfish and I have since removed him to a sixty gallon for treatments. This happened two months ago and I have been battling the white, cottony fungus ever since. The fungus did not transfer to any other fish. All my other fish are healthy.
My ph is 7.5 (as I am currently trying salt and Melafix to get rid of the fungus so it's a bit higher then it's usual 6.5). My nitrates are 10ppm and nitrites are 0.
I cannot identify the cat. He is black, 7 inches in length and about 1.5 inches wide. He is of the corry family I think as his body has that type of armored look. He is not a predator though he eats shrimp and bloodworms readily. He likes the day shift. I have had him for three years.
Treatments I have tried are swabbing injury sites with iodine, then when that didn't work I was told to use Maroxy and Moracyn Two by a pet store. That didn't work so (after I gave the cat a break from meds) I tried Fungus Clear. The damn fungus is back so now I am treating with 1 tsp aquarium salt per 10 gal and Melafix. I have been using this treatment for six days now and the fungus is still at large.I am considering treating with iodine again.
Despite everything he is active and eating extremely well. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
