hey i was looking at putting in a rapheal's catfish in my 125, not setup yet:D, with the cichlids i have 1 blood parrot 2 jackdempeys 1 bristlenose pleco 1 pacu hybrid thing. i was told he would get beat up:( so what are some other species to consider. i am also getting a freshwater lionfish, oscar, green teror, convict, and 2-3 firemouth cichlids. i had the rapheal's on hold but i took the hold off so i can get something else if needed. any suggestions?

regardless of the species of raphael your cat lives with most of those species in the wild and is extremely robust and can live with those fish. Eclipse cats will also do quite well. Blochii are also a robust sp of catfish that are fast and can avoid your cichlids if necessary.

The list of catfish that could go well in a tank such as that is endless. If you want raphaels go with that. they will do well.

they will be fine

The raphael's hide most of the time. I've had them in peaceful and agressive tanks. they were fine... because they hide and you never see them. same as upside down catfish

I would leave out the Lionfish, as they are brackish.:)

actually the lionfish i am getting is a species from southamerica and actually does better in freshwater than in saltwater. the store put them in brackish and lost 1 of them, put them in fresh and they thrived. they are pretty cool. i am trying to keep the tank all south american and latin american fish. has anyone ever had an achara or some other south american, latin american catfish. thanks.

What sp is that ?

If it is the south american species then he is correct they do only live in freshwater. i will look up the sp. as it escapes me at the moment. but still i wonder what your tank size and parameters are etc...

edit: they are considered a freshwater stonefish also if thats helps
