CATFISH WITH PYGOS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
None for very long, soner or later they all disappear, if your going to have tank mates I wouldn't spend much Good luck

I have had large plecos get eaten over nigth by smaller rbps, they just left the hollowed out head.

it is hit anf miss really, i have had a pleco grow to 12'' that lived with p's for 18 months with no problems but then other have have plecs wipe out.
its a chance you take and if so get a common plec there cheap.

you best luck would probably be a spotted raphial.I got 1 in my tank with my redz. They are nocturnal.

You might want to try Farrowella Cats (sp?). Mine has lasted longer than any plecos. From what I can gather, I think it has to do with movement. Plecos and other cats I have tried seem to make "excited" movements with their tails, especially when feeding or excited by alot of movement. This, in turn, excites the pygos and stimulates them to nip. The Farrowella seems to be very cautious and usually stays very still when the Ps are near him, even if they are feeding next to him. He once got a small nip on his tail, but this was due to the current of the powerhead pushing his tail around.
The shape may also deter them from biting since the Farrowella doesn't really have a "typical" fish shape. It seems to clean up algae pretty well, but I wish it would bottom feed a little more. I am thinking of picking up a few more and adding a couple snails. Just my .02 from observations in my tank.

Hiya Cook, welcome to MFK, what you say makes a lot of sense, I used to feed with small crayfish and the ones that just ambled around lasted the longest, the ones that scooted off got whacked right away.

whats a pygo?

Pygos are piranha like nattereri as opposed to serras like rhombeus, pygos can be kept as a shoal, serras are loners.
