In the distant past I had a lima shovelnose who smacked the glass so often and so hard that he bent the tip of his snout up. Now I have a sturio cat with the same problem. I know it's pretty common, but does anyone know if it ever heals back down? Is there something I can do to correct the problem? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

depends on the age of the catfish and seriousness of the bend. Young catfish are mostly cartilage, so the snout can set back to place and recover. Older catfish can't do this as easily. I have found with my tsn that it is CRUCIAL that he never feels like his barbels are cramped, like when he turns around. He should be able to turn around fully without his barbels touching anything. Otherwise he freaks.

LOL sturios are supposed to have there noses bent up!

not so sure about the sturio, but I am pretty sure there are members on here that have kept them with straight snouts. There is no reason their snouts would naturally bend up. As for the lima I had one that did the same thing at 9". About a year later his snout is almost perfectly straight after being bent at a 90 degree angle. The only difference before and after is his appetite. He doesn't eat anywhere near as much now as before. The whole thing was my fault for keeping him in a 30 gal aquarium. Now he lives in my 90 gal with no problems other than he doesn't eat much, but since his accident that's the way he is. Just give it time. You're lucky he didn't die. Many shovelnose catfish die when they hit the side that hard.

This is Corvette's fish. he's shown me several pics of it. It never has a bent snout. I thought this was the norm and only ones with broken noses flexed upwards.
