hey folks i dont go to bass pros and buy all the fancy catfish gear i go to good old walmart and buy there stuff and i just bought a shaespeier (i dont know how to spell it) tiger spincast rod and reel combo and its a good setup it had 20 lbs test on it but i swaped it out for 30 lbs i think its a great setup for a great price 20.00 bux

Don't slam the high dollar stuff, it tends to last longer.

That being said, your new Shakespeare (just like the playwrite) isn't a horrible rod. The reel may give you some troubles is a year or so depending on use.

Remember it's not the rod that catches the fish, it's the fisherman.

i have many cheap rods and many expensive rods...the ugly stick remains the most durable though in most cases it lacks backbone...i can't tell you how many 3'+ sturgeon i have caught on the mitchel espirt...i also have a 53" sturgeon on a 5' 1950's fiberglass rod with a $10 zebco open face reel with 2 yr old 12lb test line...it all comes down to how you handle the fish and tools you have...

i used to fish those shakespeare spincasts a lot when I was younger. caught a lot of big bass, peacock bass, and other good stuff on them. they just dont last as long and arent as reliable as a good spinning reel or casting reel. the most i spend on a full setup is around 70-90$. ive fished much more expensive stuff my friends have and there is a big difference in the performance you get out of those setups but if you know which brands to buy you can get great stuff for cheap. I buy most of my stuff from walmart too. they have great stuff in there but nothing beats basspro. i spend so much time in there when i go its not even funny

i like the stuff i got i want to get a few of those zebco hawg seekers that have a bite alert that blinks and makes nosies and stuff i like it

i have the hawg seeker. Its an amazing rod. but the bite alert is annoying. the river i fish has a decent current sometimes and constantly sets off the alert. so i keep it turned off and find it more sporting with out it. It an awesome rod and reel for the 40 bucks. i found the line on it sucked so i put 40lb braid on it and i can cast it so much farther. so spinning over the closed face reel too.
