IN YOUR HEAD
the river was 2.5' up do to the storms we had out here, so my normal spot was under water...i shifted to the high point and got one for the 2hrs i was out fishing...

it was 26" and 7.6 lbs...i didn't have a stringer so it sat out for an hour of deydration befor the second two shots...this spot i get more cats with a chance of sturgeons and my other sopt is more sturgeons with a chance of cats...

i just noticed the fish looks small when i am holding it, but note that i am 6' 5" and my shoulders are 2.5' wide...

nice catch. i feel you on the picture though. i caught a 8.2 lb prespawn female in march, in the picture im holding her with 2 hands and her belly is hanging down, she looks like 2 lbs =(. i made a video of her though next to a tape measurer to prove it.

anyways, once again, nice cat.

what did u catch him on?

thanx...i didn't have time to make any special bait, so i just use reg chicken liver...it hit it like a ton of bricks and tried to cut me off on the wall several times...in normal levels the wall is 6' stright down and there is a spring entrance to the river there...this time the spring was 4' down...

got out last night to the same spot and at 12:30am i got a cat that was 27 1/4" i didn't get it on a scale, but it was about the same as the first one...wasn't the same fish as we ate the first one and the second is in the freezer...they have caught 50lbs+ flatheads there and i would let them go if i get any, but this sized cats are great table fare...

yes, catfish are great eatting...i get them from a clean river witch in this case is the st. crouix...if i get some from the northern mississippi i will eat them, but after they get through a few large cities i wont stick a fork in them...still fun to catch though....

I second the part about mississippi fish being disgusting, a disturbing reality of resource degredation and human impact (even after so much has been improved and the fish communities have). I fish under st anthony falls and lock and dam no 1 often by boat, lookin for big walleye and smallmouth. I have caught many nasty ass channels living mixed in with all that dirty effluent that break 30" easily. I usually just throw them to the numerous shore fisherman who want to eat em!

Usually the fish out of that section of the river are very pale in color and often have moderate parasite loads, which is probably caused by the secondary stress accrued as a result of all the nasty trace pharmaceuticals that make their way into the watershed (and then end up concentrating in the top predators). It is simply amazing that they can survive as they do!

Attached is a pic of a giant mississippi river walleye from last fall, and a behemoth 46" northern pike from only three weeks ago (a creature of the unadultered waters of the north!)

keep in mind i am 6'4"
