Hello, this is my first post, but I have been reading almost nonstop trying to figure out what kinds of cats to get. I plan on getting a 90 gallon soon and would like some cool catfish for it. I would prefer if they are predatory, it would also be a bonus if it could go in a community tank but I'm fine doing a tank dedicated to cats. Also I am a bigginer and on a budget so nothing super expensive or difficult to take care of. Thanks.

How bout Sun Cats. They are hardy, and not expensive, predatory, and grow fairly large.

What size tank do channel require? I assume they would require a couple hundred gallons, but I might be able to fit a stock pond in my room, does anyone know a good brand?

A 500 gallon would be ideal for one with large width and length and a lot of room to move around. But they can get up to 40 lbs and possibly up to 4' long so the bigger the better. If you could set up a large outdoor pond that is deep and big you could throw a couple channel cats in there and they would be fine for life in a 1500 or something closely sized. If you have the space or funds I would make a large catfish and native pond. Like maybe 30' wide by 50' long and maybe 10' deep. That would be an awesome build but I know that is a big task for anyone. Sorry if im sidetracking this but just throwing out a series of options for possible housing of channel cats. But anyways they get huge and eat everything they can fit in their mouths. So they are definetly not a community fish

Yeah sun cats are awesome and stay relatively small

Or you can make or buy a very large fish tank. Other than that or a large indoor pond channel cats are out of the picture
