cattails can they be trimmed?

My cattails are to long/tall. I would like to trim them about 2 to 3 feet from flowerpots base They are currently about 6 feet tall plus and leaning to much due to being top heavy .

I dont know if cutting such a plant will kill it ?

Thanks I didnt know if safe to cut them but will leave them 3 feet high as they look to lanky ,top heavy now .

Will trim them tonight

It may be time consuming, but try to cut them at different heights. Not 10-12", but a few a couple of inches taller then some, and lower than some, will make them look more natural than just lopping them off at one height.

Thanks I trimmed them all at same height of 3 feet it looks good they were just to big think due to the daily rains than sun they just shot up
