In search of Leiarius
Caught a 16-18 inch female brown bullhead at a local lake, was swimming with some gogles and saw her sitting at the bottom, so a grabbed her by the mouth with my right hand.
It was awesome. Let her go so she could spawn.
NO pics.

What lake was this? Whiskeytown? Shasta? A smaller pond?

Whiskeytown. I think it is better than Shasta.

What I got a real kick out of is that her bite felt like a crayfish pinch, but a little softer and her teeth were like sand paper.

Also theres a lot of baby bass, small mouth or large mouth at whiskeytown in the shallows by brandycreek. I couldn't tell if they were spawned or hatchery.

Also a good trick to catch trout at that lake, since they're hatchery raised, can use some bread on a small hook for bait instead of lures, the trout love it , and hit it hard to, and will put on a show for bread products.

Sorry that there are no pics, didn't plan on catching anything. Did have my fishing license though, always have it on me.

Whats funny for me is I suck at catching fish on rod and reel but always run into all sorts of game fish of good sizes when I go swiming.

ive done that in a private lake near my house. dove down and thought the thing was dead and just picked it up around the belly. didnt thrash or anything just made these weird clicking sounds and gargled haha

Yah I believe they trim the small soft dorsal fin. On the bass I always thought the hatchery released them once they are two inchs long.

The bullhead had to have been sleeping or something.
