i was bullheading with an old freind over in CT last week it was about midnight and a lil rainy but we were fishing in his lake that was dammed up like a really really long time ago like pre birth for me(im 17) but the lake used to be a tributary into the norwalk which is a river where the eels go in their migration so im thinkin its landlocked. but i mean seriously how old was this eel because they cant spawn in lakes correct?

well it was about 3 ft long and 2 lbs according to my scale well once my buddy uploads the pics and sends them to me ill upload them here so be excited

oh need to see this im subed

Eels are very long-lived (the captive record is 88 years), so, it's not unreasonable to think that eel has been in the lake since it was dammed. It's also possible the eel was introduced afterwards.

yeah it could have been but i think it was a wild one seeing as not many ppl use them as freshwater bait up there plus its a private lake

I would say the eel is at least 25 years old. It probably made its way into the lake on it's own. When the juvenile eels (elvers) migrate to freshwater they can get into some really tight spaces, and probably could get through/around the dam at the lake.
True, they don't spawn in freshwater.

can I see a picture of it
