I recieved some free caulerpa (maybe taxifolia? not sure) and am going to try and grow it in the sump. I tried once in the display but the tangs and idol destroyed it (i know, should have known).
Only prob now is a yellow damsel i have in the sump decided he would nibble at it. I moved him but was thinking of letting him back in when the caulerpa took off a bit, would this be ok? Or should i put another fish in there instead? (assuming there is a small one that won't eat the caulerpa or dig in my plenum)

i doubt the damsel could do much. at the very most he'd control it's growth..

since the tangs and idol made a noticable dent in it i doubt it's taxifolia, it's very hard to digest.. maybe a similar species

Ok, will let him in when caulerpa grows a bit more. Also this damsel digs pits about 1" deep in the plenum (6" deep), this won't effect anything will it? I might trade him for a couple of dif ones.

i feel that the worst could happen is he would uproot your algae. As far as effecting the plenum, that little spot that he disturbed is not going to affect your water quality or the function of the plenum. My doubts anyways.

I'm not a very big fan of damsel fish so id suggest getting different ones, but thats a bias opinion.

It cant be taxifolia for two reasons its now illegal to won/sell and your tangs would not touch the stuff as even for humans to eat it it needs to be heated.

I just traded the damsel in for a tomato clown and will put one or two seahorses in there. Will see how that goes.

I'd do either/or on the clowns and horses

Horses can be hard to feed when other fish are around

The damsel would have been bad for the plenum any...
I just remembered, they rather much like to dig
