i have a 3" lionhead goldfish that i purchased a few months back with only one eye. now this morning i noticed his other eye is gone. looks just like an open socket almost, that the eye just fell out of.

only goldfish and one danio in the tank, no shark rock or decorations, regular WC's, decent filtration.... so what would cause him to simply, lose an eye?? i know the one he had worked, as he could always see the food or my fingers in the tank, where as this morning it took him awhile, and he still wasent having much luck

time to find a 30g or so tank to keep this guy in solo for life now

Don't know the cause, but blind fish can often live on fine, but sometimes it takes a little more care on your part if it has trouble finding food. I'll move this to the health section.

You know, I've had this happened before when I used to keep fancy goldfish. I finally saw what happened. One of the other goldfish sucked the eye right out of its socket. All that was left was a white hole where the eyeball was. It never seemed to bother or hurt the victim. The Doctor.

you actually SAW the goldies sucking an eye out of another?? wow, that is just amazing. i know goldies will eat anything given a chance, but never thought they would do that to a perfectly healthy fish.

whats the best way to set up a tank for an eyeless fish to make things best for him?? completely bare with just some gravel?

You know, I didn't do anything different for the fish that was missing its eye. It didn't even seem to bother him. He acted like a normal fish. I don't know how it would act with both eyes gone, but with one gone, it didn't seem to bother him. The Doctor.

yea, one eyed fish seem to do fine. this guy had 1 eye from the day i got him, and has had no issue getting to food, even with the faster comet and common goldie in the tank. completely blind is another story.

considering moving my 75g inhabitants to my 250g finally, and giving this guy the 75 with a pair of dojo loaches. make him one happy lionhead
