Anyone ever flipped a crate, cut out the handles, and covered one with rock for a secure cave?

Considering doing this for my Dragon Moray, but was curious if the plastic had any effect on water parameters.

i know a guy who used them in a 1300 gallon reef tank.... shouldnt be too hard to make a cave from them... i know he drilled holes and use heavy duty zip ties and i think an expoxy as well... ill double check that...

Let me know if he had any ill effects (Phosphates/nitrates/etc) from the plastic.

Thanks Nic.

Can't trust a $1000 eel with a "Should be", has to be a "100% safe".

Well unless your putting 40 lbs or more of wieght onto it. Since the 40lbs would be lighter in the water. It should be fine. Oh, and if you don't mind i want to see this eel. :D

An lfs near me used them to structure live rock in there eel tank worked out fine

Thanks. I figure with a mix of that and 4" PVC all covered in Liverock I should have an eel playground in a 180g.

ill ask tomorrow if i get up there joe.... i believe there was no problems what so ever... i know the crates were scrubed very well in a bleach water then rinced and rescrubbed in bleach etc.... reef has been running for a couple years now... fuge was a little small for the bio load so there was a small nitrate problem at one point but ill double check everything for you:)
