I have asked this question before but maybe someone here knows. Is there any fish i can keep with my female convict in the 20 gallon? I dont want a bunch of fry so a male is out of the question. I tried a platy ( i knew he was doomed) bet he got torn apart.

I've kept several different fish with convicts. Are you wanting to keep them in a 20 gal for life? If so you might be able to get away with a firemouth or a similar cichlid, but eventually they may need more space. You might even consider a pictus cat or synondontus
Also, what is the footprint of the 20? If its a 20tall you'll need a bigger tank

The majority of convict threads deal with the breeding aspect, sounds like you actually want this water slut as a pet....
Only a 20g?Hmmmmm.....PLant the h*ll out of the tank....Get technical and find out what plants fit where(front glass,mid,back).....Glue together some rocks so she has a cave or two...Hopefully she will like the cave(s), preventing much rooting from happening....Anyway,Good Luck and post pix.....

The tank is a 20 high. I hope to move her to something a little bigger say... a 55. Ill post pics soon. Maybe a video beacause she doesnt like to stand still. I think clown loaches, pictus cats and plecos get to big for a 20. Might try the danjios in the future though.
You are funny, theres nothing wrong with having a single convict for a "pet". I find convicts fun and interesting to watch, they are a great mini "]V[onster" for a smaller tank.
In a 20 your options are very limited, but if you get the 55 there are many more possibilities. You can get another female, or a group of firemouths, etc.

salvini will eventully get to big, as well they are just as mean as convicts so someone would end up dead. the fire mouth group in the 55 sounds like a winner to me.
