Recently I was at a local Bonsai store and they were selling these really nice rock structures. When i asked the girl what they were made of she said they were an imported chinese mountain stone held together by cement. I was wondering if this is ok for aquarium.

Well, as in all things that we put into the tank, you want to consider whether it's safe, so you raise a good question. No matter where it comes from, if I have any doubts, I'd put the items in water with some less valuable fish (guppies, swordtails, etc.), for a couple weeks. If they live and you check the water for heavy metals, salts etc., and it's all good, then it might be a go.

Standards for 'making things' are not the same all over and even in the US, I'm more cautious over using new things. Cement is a catch all phrase to some people and varies from literal Portland Cement to any old thing that makes stuff stick together. "Mountain stone" might include any number of chemicals and metals not suitable for fish.

Caveat emptor...

Yeah it's gonna go in my brand new 300L aquarium(I don't know what that is in gallons) I think I might seal it with an aquarium safe sealant and see how it goes with my guppy and 5 neons before I put any valuable fish in there with it
